Chop, was the word of the day. Thursday at the Etchells World Championship was exciting and wet. The sailors donned their buoyancy aids as requested by the "Y" flag and racing took place on in a short lumpy sea state. Argyle Campbell, USA, took the win today with his simple tactics and Noel Drennan says he will up the ante as the regatta gets to the pointy end. Video Producer: VR Sport Media

Day Four - 2016 Etchells World Championship

Big breeze arrived at the 2016 Etchells World Championship today; fully powered up, punching through Solent chop upwind and pulling the trigger down wind, several teams experienced gear failure. The conditions were unexpected, 25 knots of solid breeze with bullets of pressure, sending the wind speed past 30 knots.

A dramatic morning, to say the least. Two races took place with some over zealous sailors being disqualified for OCS. Terrific to hear about the top-end tussle from the horse's mouth, as we interview Chris Hampton and Stephen Benjamin who spoke highly of the the event's location.

It was a dramatic finish to the third day of the Etchells World Championship, sponsored by Red Funnel Ferries. John Bertrand, representing the Royal Brighton Yacht Club (AUS), was initially disqualified from Race 5, for being over early on a U-Flag start, and then re-instated after the Race Committee reviewed the decision.

Light airs again treated to the fleet to some tricky navigation on the Solent and strong tides created major opportunities. Noel Drennan taking control, arriving at the top mark first and retaining his lead all the way to the finish on the five leg, two mile course. Some serious passion flows in the fleet as we speak to Samantha Burrows about cutting her honeymoon short to sail with her father, as well as the youngsters from the Royal Thames Yacht Club who are mixing it up with the big dogs.
